Από τις 4 Αυγούστου του 1958, το αμερικανικό μουσικό περιοδικό Billboard, παρουσιάζει το Billboard Hot 100, που είναι μια λίστα κατάταξης των τραγουδιών με τις καλύτερες επιδόσεις στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες

Τραγούδια με τις μεγαλύτερες πωλήσεις, με το μεγαλύτερο αριθμό μεταδόσεων στο ραδιόφωνο από τους παραγωγούς, αλλά και πόσο συχνά παιζόταν στα jukebox της εποχής, αποτελούσαν τη λίστα αυτή και διαμόρφωναν την τελική κατάταξη ανά εβδομάδα

Από το 1958 έως σήμερα παρακολουθούμε τις σχετικές λίστες τραγουδιών για κάθε χρόνο με τα Νο 1 τραγούδια ανά εβδομάδα, αλλά και τη λίστα των καλλιτεχνών με τις περισσότερες συνολικές παρουσίες στο Νο 1.
