Deep Purple - Studio albums

Από τα πιο δημοφιλή συγκροτήματα της Hard Rock, οι Deep Purple, ιδρύθηκαν στο Λονδίνο το 1968 και παραμένουν ενεργοί ως σήμερα, με μεγάλα χρονικά διαστήματα χωρίς δραστηριότητα και συχνότατη αλλαγή μελών.

Το αρχικό τους όνομα ήταν Roundabout όνομα που είχε επιλέξει ο ντραμίστας των Searchers, Chris Curtis ο οποίος ειχε και την ιδέα της ίδρυσης του νέου συγκροτήματος. Πρώτη επιλογή ήταν ο κιμπορντίστας John Lord και αμέσως μετα ο μπασίστας Nick Simper που έπαιζαν μαζί στους The Flower Pot Men, οι οποίοι πρότειναν τον ταλαντούχο Ritchie Blackmore σαν κιθαρίστα.

Η Δισκογραφική εταιρεία HEC με την οποία είχαν υπογραψει συμβόλαιο έδιωξε τον Chris Curtis λόγω χρήσης LSD και κάλυψε τη θέση στα τύμπανα με τον Bobby Woodman που και αυτός με την σειρά του διαφώνησε με τους υπόλοιπους και έδωσε τη θέση του στον Ian Paice. Με την προσθήκη του Ian Paice ολοκληρώθηκε η σύνθεση του συγκροτήματος ενώ λίγο νωρίτερα είχε προστεθεί και ο τραγουδιστής Rod Evans.

Τον Απρίλιο και το Μάιο του 1968 πραγματοποιούν συναυλίες  στη Δανία ως Roundabout, πριν αλλάξουν το όνομα τους σε Deep Purple. Το όνομα προέρχεται απο τον τίτλο ενός jazz τραγουδιού του πιανίστα Peter De Rose που ήταν αγαπημένο της γιαγιάς του Ritchie Blackmore.

Τον Μάιο του 1968 ηχογραφούν το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ με τίτλο Shades of Deep Purple που γωρίζει μεγάλη επιτυχία και στις δύο πλευρές του Ατλαντικού, ενώ ξεκινούν συναυλίες στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες σαν support group του Eric Clapton και του συγκροτήματος των Creams.

Στα μέσα του 1969 ο Rod Evans αποχωρει από το συγκρότημα και αμέσως μετά ο Nick Simper, που σύμφωνα με τα υπόλοιπα μέλη, δεν ταίριαζε με το στυλ του συγκροτήματος. Αντικαθίστανται από τους Ian Gillan και Roger Glover.

Το πρώτο άλμπουμ με τη νέα σύνθεση κυκλοφορεί το 1970 με τίτλο Deep Purple In Rock που γωρίζει παγκόσμια επιτυχία όπως και οι επόμενοι δίσκοι και τα singles που κυκλοφορούν (Black Night, Fireball, Smoke on the Water, Strange Kind of Woman, Woman from Tokyo)

Το άλμπουμ Who Do We Think We Are που κυκλοφόρησε το 1973 είναι το τελευταίο με τους Ian Gillan και Roger Glover στη σύνθεση του συγκροτήματος. 

Η παραπάνω σύνθεση ήταν η καλύτερη και πιο επιτυχημένη του συγκροτήματος. Τη θέση των Gillan και Glover καταλαμβάνουν οι David Coverdale και Glenn Hughes. 

Το Δεκέμβριο του 1974 κυκλοφορεί το τελευταίο άλμπουμ με τον Ritchie Blackmore στη σύνθεσή τους, με τίτλο Stormbringer. Ο σπουδαίος κιθαρίστας αντικαταστάθηκε από τον αμερικανό κιθαρίστα Tommy Bolin, ενώ τον Μάρτιο του 1976 ανακοινώνεται η διάλυση του συγκροτήματος λόγω των πολλών προβλημάτων που δημιουργούσε ο εθισμός στα σκληρά ναρκωτικά  και στο αλκοόλ του Glenn Hughes αλλλά κυρίως του Tommy Bolin που λίγο καιρό μετά πεθαίνει από υπερβολίκη δόση (Δεκέμβριος 1976)

Παρά το γεγονός οτι το συγκρότημα παρέμεινα αδρανές για μια οκταετία και τα μέλη του του είχαν δημιουργήσει την δική τους προσωπική καριέρα (ο Ian Gillan με τους Ian Gillan Band, ο Ritchie Blackmore και Roger Glover με τους  Rainbow, οι Ian Paice και John Lord με τους Paice, Ashton & Lord), το 1984 επανενώνονται με την πιο πετυχημένη συνθεσή τους (Ian Gillan, Ian Paice, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover και John Lord)

Το συγκρότημα παρότι οι διαμάχες νέων και παλαιών μελών συνεχίζονται, παρά τις αποχωρήσεις και τις επανενώσεις, συνεχίζει και παραμένει ενεργό έως τις μέρες μας, 60 σχεδόν χρόνια μετά...
