Ο τραγουδοποιός Paul Simon και ο τραγουδιστής και ηθοποιός Art Garfunkel, αποτελούσαν το μουσικό δίδυμο Simon & Garfunkel, το πιο σπουδαίο ντουέτο, ίσως, στην ιστορία της αμερικάνικης folk-Rock μουσικής

Η ιστορία τους ξεκινάει το 1953 όταν γνωρίζονται στο σχολείο σπουδάζοντας και οι δύο αρμονία. Το 1957 και σε εφηβική ηλικία σχηματίζουν ένα γκρουπάκι με την ονομασία Tom & Jerry και κάνουν την πρώτη τους μικρή επιτυχία με το τραγούδι "Hey Schoolgirl" μιμούμενοι τους Everly Brothers.

Το 1963 σαν Simon & Garfunkel υπογράφουν συμβόλαιο με την Columbia και ένα χρόνο μετά κυκλοφορεί το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ με τίτλο Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. που κρίθηκε αποτυχημένο.

Το τραγούδι όμως "Sounds of Silence", σε νέα version το 1965 σημειώνει τεράστια επιτυχία φτάνοντας στη κορυφή του Billboard Hot 100.

Ήταν η αρχή της πολύ σπουδαίας καριέρας του ντουέτου που μέχρι το 1970 που διαλύθηκε, δημιούργησε εξαιρετικά διαχρονικά τραγούδια που ακούγονται και σήμερα όπως τα "Sounds of Silence", "I Am a Rock", "The 59th Street Bridge Song", "Mrs. Robinson", "Bridge over Troubled Water", "The Boxer".
